In the following linked article
see the total war ships that Canada
had during WW II. They add up to 332
ships compared to today’s navy of
about 24 ships... wow..
In 1939, at the beginning of WW
II, Canada’s full time army
totalled 4,321 officers and men and
its militia equalled about 51,000
ill equipped part time soldiers. At
war’s end Canada’s army totalled
730,000, its air force 260,000 and
the navy 115,000. Apparently 50% of
Canada’s army and 75% of its air
force never left Canada. Canada’s
merchant marine made over 25,000
crossings during WW II and Canada
produced 345 merchant vessels.
Canada produced 14,000 aircraft
including the Lancaster Bomber and
the Mosquito Bomber. Canada produced
over 800,000 trucks (more than
Japan, Italy and Germany combined).
Canada was the second largest
producer of “wheeled” vehicles after
the U.S. Canada ended WW II with the
fourth largest air force in the
world. Canada’s population was
between 11 and 12 million people in
1945.
Today Canada has over 33 million
people and we have one of the
smallest navy, air force and armies
in the developed world. Many third
world nations have exceedingly
larger military forces and
equipment. Canada is, by
classification, one of the weakest
military nations on earth.
And Canada is the second largest
nation on earth by land mass. It has
3 oceans and the Great Lakes on its
endless borders.
Canada today is as ill equipped or
less so, to fight a war than it was
in 1939. What have we learned?
Apparently nothing.
